Tummy Tuck and Mini Tummy Tuck in Boise, Idaho – Abdominoplasty
Sometimes diet and exercise are not enough to help us lose excess weight and skin around our abdomen after weight loss or childbirth. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, can help get rid of unwanted fat, while removing excess skin. It also helps to strengthen weak or separated abdominal muscles.
Who is a candidate for tummy tuck procedure?
Those who are looking to get rid of excess abdominal skin after weight loss or childbirth are great candidates. At Silk Touch, Dr. Nealy performs tummy tucks to erase stubborn fat that is resistant to dieting and exercise. Patients do not need to be at their goal weight before their procedure as liposuction will address this and will help make exercise more comfortable. The procedure is best suited for men and women who are healthy and non-smoking.
Dr. Nealy offers Mini Tummy Tucks in Boise, Idaho
Sometimes patients do not need a full tummy tuck. Mini tummy tucks address excess skin in the lower abdomen but are unable to completely address excess skin in the upper abdomen. A mini tummy tuck uses the incision across the lower abdomen to pull tissues tight without making an incision around the umbilicus to reposition it. One major advantage to a mini tummy tuck is that can be done without general anesthesia, meaning your downtime is quicker and your home within a few hours.
Difference Between Full Tummy Tuck and Mini Tuck
A mini tummy tuck involves an incision along the lower abdomen as well as around the belly button. This allows repositioning of the belly button after excess skin is removed. A full tummy tuck will address excess skin in the upper and lower abdomen. To assess whether or not you may need a full tummy tuck look at your belly button. If it appears hooded, you will likely enjoy a full tummy tuck.
Tummy Tuck FAQ
Recovery from a tummy tuck can vary by patient. Depending on the type of work a patient does, we recommend taking anywhere from 7-14 days off work. Dr. Nealy prescribes an active recovery, meaning you are instructed to begin walking the day after surgery for 30 minutes three times a day.
You will be wearing a garment for 6 weeks. For the first week walk leaning forward with the abdomen flexed and sleep in a reclined position. After the first week you can walk upright and resume sleeping in a flat position. Activities will gradually increase from walking, to non-strenuous exercise, and finally back to strenuous exercises including heavy lifting. Avoid swimming for four weeks and no hot tubs for six weeks.
Pain after a tummy tuck is the most uncomfortable the first few days and gradually improves over two weeks. Swelling is normal and anticipated after surgery. Swelling will generally peak 3-5 days after surgery and will come down by three weeks after surgery.
The biggest risks of abdominoplasty are related to blood clots—deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. These risks are mitigated through careful patient screening before surgery, perioperative anticoagulation if indicated and early ambulation after surgery. Other risks include, bleeding, infection, seroma/hematoma, asymmetry, and need for revisional surgery.
Results from an abdominoplasty will last forever. However, it is possible to develop loose skin and excess fat in the abdomen again. To prevent this Dr. Nealy encourages all patients to implement healthy exercise and dieting habits.
Yes! Tummy tucks pair well with many other procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation, breast reduction, arm lift, butt lift, or fat transfer. Plus another benefit of doing more than one procedure at once is quicker downtime. Consolidating recoveries means taking less time off work and faster return to your busy lifestyle
For a complete package – tummy tucks can also be combined with facial rejuvenation procedures or non invasive treatments such as fillers, Botox, laser facials and medical grade skin care products.
Why Choose Silk Touch for your Tummy Tuck?
Dr. Nealy’s signature tummy tuck technique is unmatched in artistry and patient satisfaction. He prefers to use a combination approach called lipoabdominoplasty which is a modern approach to an old operation. The lipoabdominoplasty was popularized by Avelar, Illouz and Saldana, among others, and is the most powerful way to address excess skin and fat in the midsection. We do also offer traditional tummy tuck, though the lipoabdominoplasty is Dr. Nealy’s preferred technique as it provides improved contour with less downtime.
