Sometimes diet and exercise are not enough to help us lose excess weight and skin around our abdomen after weight loss or childbirth. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, can help get rid of unwanted fat, while removing excess skin. It also helps to strengthen weak or separated abdominal muscles.
How does a tummy tuck work?
A Tummy Tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery designed to remove excess skin and stubborn fat from the midsection while simultaneously tightening the underlying abdominal muscles for a more contoured stomach and waist. This procedure is especially popular for those who have experienced pregnancies, childbirth, or have lost a significant amount of weight and are living with loose, sagging skin or excess fat. Tummy Tucks not only give our patients a more contoured and lean look, it also gives long lasting and restored confidence.
At Silk Touch in Boise, ID, we specialize in a full range of Tummy Tuck techniques— including traditional, reverse, mini, and extended approaches—with each of these options customizable towards your unique goals and body composition.

Types Of Tummy Tucks at silk Touch COsmetic Surgery
Traditional Tummy Tucks in the Treasure Valley
Traditional Tummy Tucks are great for those that have excess skin above and below the belly button, and are experiencing abdominal muscle laxity or weakness. The main incision is made low on the stomach, along the underwear line, from hip to hip, and another small incision is made around the belly button. The excess skin is removed, the muscles flattened and tightened, and the remaining skin is repositioned along with the belly button.
Dr. Nealy offers Mini Tummy Tucks in Boise, Idaho
Sometimes patients do not need a traditional, or full, tummy tuck. Mini tummy tucks address excess skin in the lower abdomen, beneath the belly button. This technique uses just one incision across the lower abdomen to pull tissues tight and does not require an incision around the belly button to reposition it. One major advantage to a mini tummy tuck is that can be done without general anesthesia, meaning your downtime is quicker and your home within a few hours.
Difference Between Full Tummy Tuck and Mini Tuck
A mini tummy tuck involves an incision along the lower abdomen as well as around the belly button. This allows repositioning of the belly button after excess skin is removed. A full tummy tuck will address excess skin in the upper and lower abdomen. To assess whether or not you may need a full tummy tuck look at your belly button. If it appears hooded, you will likely enjoy a full tummy tuck.
Reverse Tummy Tucks
Reverse Tummy Tucks are ideal for folks who only have loose skin above their belly button in their upper abdomen. Unlike other types of Tummy Tucks that require an incision along the hip line, what makes a Reverse Tummy Tuck unique is that the incision lays under the breasts along the lower chest wall and lifts the remaining skin towards the breasts. This technique pairs great with our breast enhancements procedures like augmentations and lifts.
Extended Tummy Tucks
For individuals experiencing lots of excess skin around their entire waistline an Extended Tummy Tuck is typically the preferred method to achieve a contoured waistline. This Tummy Tuck variation is especially popular for those who have experienced a significant amount of weight loss. For this technique a longer incision along the waistline that extends past the hips is required to adequately remove the excess skin. Extended Tummy Tucks also involves belly button repositioning, muscle repair (as needed), and can see longer recovery times. This version of Tummy Tuck can also be paired with Traditional or Mini techniques dependent on the needs of the patient.
Enhanced Results with Lipo 360
Many of our clients elect to incorporate stomach liposuction with their Tummy Tucks, a technique commonly called Lipo-Abdominoplasty.
For individuals seeking more dramatic body contouring, we offer Lipo 360–a comprehensive liposuction approach removing fat from the entire midsection, including upper and lower stomach, flanks (love handles), and lower back to expertly shape an hourglass figure noticeable from all angles. Ensuring that hour glass figure is achieved from all angles.
The fat removed from the PAL Liposuction can also be used in a fat transfer to the breasts, buttocks for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), face, or other areas of desire.

FAQ
What is the Recovery Like After a Tummy Tuck?
Recovery from a tummy tuck can vary by patient. Depending on the type of work a patient does, we recommend taking anywhere from 7-14 days off work. Dr. Nealy prescribes an active recovery, meaning you are instructed to begin walking the day after surgery for 30 minutes three times a day.
You will be wearing a garment for 6 weeks. For the first week walk leaning forward with the abdomen flexed and sleep in a reclined position. After the first week you can walk upright and resume sleeping in a flat position. Activities will gradually increase from walking, to non-strenuous exercise, and finally back to strenuous exercises including heavy lifting. Avoid swimming for four weeks and no hot tubs for six weeks.
How Long Does the Pain and Swelling Last After Surgery?
Pain after a tummy tuck is the most uncomfortable the first few days and gradually improves over two weeks. Swelling is normal and anticipated after surgery. Swelling will generally peak 3-5 days after surgery and will come down by three weeks after surgery.
What Are the Risks With a Tummy Tuck or Lipoabdominoplasty Surgery?
The biggest risks of abdominoplasty are related to blood clots—deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. These risks are mitigated through careful patient screening before surgery, perioperative anticoagulation if indicated and early ambulation after surgery. Other risks include, bleeding, infection, seroma/hematoma, asymmetry, and need for revisional surgery.
How Long Do Results Last From a Tummy Tuck?
Results from an abdominoplasty will last forever. However, it is possible to develop loose skin and excess fat in the abdomen again. To prevent this Dr. Nealy encourages all patients to implement healthy exercise and dieting habits.
Can You Combine a Tummy Tuck With Other Procedures?
Yes! Tummy tucks pair well with many other procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation, breast reduction, arm lift, butt lift, or fat transfer. Plus another benefit of doing more than one procedure at once is quicker downtime. Consolidating recoveries means taking less time off work and faster return to your busy lifestyle
For a complete package – tummy tucks can also be combined with facial rejuvenation procedures or non invasive treatments such as fillers, Botox, laser facials and medical grade skin care products.
