What is an arm lift?
Are you beginning to notice the skin on your arms starting to sag or becoming loose? This can be due to loss of elasticity in the skin from aging or significant weight loss. One way to treat this is to get an arm lift, or brachioplasty. The goal of arm lift surgery is to achieve a smoother, tighter arm appearance, though results may vary from person to person.

*Procedure results are typical and may vary
Who is a candidate?
- Those with significant upper arm skin laxity.
- Adults of any age whose weight is relatively stable and who are not significantly overweight.
- Healthy individuals without medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery.
- Nonsmokers preferred
How is an arm lift performed?
Arm lift surgery is most often performed with general anesthesia. An incision is placed on the back of the arm or inside of the arm, and can extend from the armpit to above the elbow. Incision length, pattern and placement depend on the location of excess skin. Liposuction may be used in conjunction with the procedure to remove unwanted fat. All incisions made during the surgery will be closed with dissolvable sutures.
What can I expect for results?
Post-op care instructions will be provided by the doctor prior to your surgery. Bandages will be applied to your incisions and compression sleeves will be wrapped around your arms to minimize the swelling. It is important to follow all recovery instructions to ensure you heal properly and achieve desired results.
Results from arm lift surgery are almost immediate and are long lasting provided that stable weight is maintained. You can expect swelling and bruising following the procedure. Scars from the incisions will fade over time, though you should anticipate hyperpigmented scars for one year before fading to white.
Potential risks include:
- Scarring
- Nerve or muscle damage
- Asymmetry in the shape of arms
- Bleeding
- Changes in skin sensation/numbness
- Infection
- Axillary webbing
