Power Assisted Liposuction
Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) is an advanced form of body sculpting. This procedure uses a cannula that vibrates rapidly to break up the fat into smaller pieces before they are removed. A cannula is a thin metal tube that is inserted into an incision and is used to suction out the pieces of fat. Unlike traditional liposuction that requires manual back and forth movement of the cannula, PAL uses a power assisted cannula that automatically moves back and forth.

How Much Fat Can Be Taken?
There are limits to how much fatty tissue can safely be taken from the body in one liposuction procedure. One way to get a good idea for yourself is to stand and bend from the waist. The amount of “loose-hanging” fat you can easily grab above/below your waist will approximate what can be removed with liposuction. Keep in mind that this procedure is not intended as a weight loss solution. The goal is to create a slimmer silhouette.
Is Anesthesia Used During The Procedure?
Recently this technique has become more popular for maximizing the safety of liposuction. Laser Liposuction may be done totally by local anesthesia with minimal bruising or blood loss.

What About Future Weight Gain/Fat Migrating To Other Areas?
Following your liposuction procedure, should you experience weight gain or loss, it will tend to be proportionately distributed over your entire body. Once you have fat removed, it is gone and (assuming a healthy lifestyle, proper diet, and exercise) it will not return or migrate. However, because fat is necessary to a healthy body, some essential fat layers in any given site remain untreated. If you do gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fatty tissue will expand. Normal aging changes can also be expected.
When Will I See Results?
This varies with the extensiveness of the liposuction procedure, the amount of fat removed, the number of sites treated, and so on. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure, with the final results being visible around 3 to 6 months.
What Is The Recovery And After Care For Liposuction?
Clients are often back on their feet within a day or two and many may return to work the very next day. After tumescent liposuction, there is a certain amount of blood-tinged local anesthetic solution that remains under the skin. This excess fluid is either slowly absorbed over several days, or it can be rapidly removed by drainage through skin incisions and absorbed by special absorptive pads. Our liposuction is an outpatient procedure and you can actually walk out of our office the same day.
The length of the recovery process depends on the size of the area treated and the extent of the liposuction procedure. For smaller areas recovery can be a few days, whereas with larger areas it can be anywhere from 7 to 10 days of swelling and pain. Following your procedure you will be provided a compression garment that will need to be worn for 4 to 6 weeks that will help reduce swelling and bruising, as well as help your body heal properly. Activity levels may also be restricted for the first 6 weeks.
